Texas State Council History

During the early 1900's, saved Saints traveled from Indiana to Houston, Texas.  Holiness was preached and many accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior.  Many of the Saints had relatives living in San Antonio, Texas.  When they heard the truth, they too accepted Christ and were saved.  The Houston Saints were invited to San Antonio where the Gospel spread like wild fire.  Bishop Haywood was asked to send someone to San Antonio to baptize the new converts.

Bishop Lawson was the one chosen to go to San Antonio.  He began to baptize in the name of Jesus and the number of Saints grew mightily.  The power of the Lord was so great that Bishop Lawson took to the evangelistic field.

Elder D.A. Chenut was sent to Texas and many souls were saved.  Lincoln Park Temple, then located at 817 Iowa Street became the headquarters.  The gospel began to spread all over Texas: Seguin, Ft. Worth, Longview, Port Lavaca and many other neighboring cities.  Then, many other ministers became a part of this great work: Elder Wilkerson, Elder North, Elder Sanders, and Elder Wauls.  These men worked hard pioneering Texas.  Along with these men were great women: Sister Menkens, Sister Lewis, Sister Davis, Sister Sinclair, Sister Smith, and many more helped spread the word around the state.

Texas has been blessed to have three Bishops: Bishop D.T. Shultz, Bishop R.A. Wauls and Bishop W.A. Ellis to represent the great state of Texas.  Presently, we are blessed to have a fourth Bishop to serve this great State of Texas in the person of the Honorable Bishop Norman L. Wagner.  We thank God for choosing Texas for over one-hundred years, yet still pressing toward the mark of a higher calling.
